Bitcoin used to be synonymous with the black market purchase of illegal goods. But now celebrities have joined the crypto craze.

We explore some of the celebrities who have joined the crypto bandwagon or shown interest in the new wave of digital money.

Kanye West

Besides suing a crypto project for trademark infringement, Yeezy himself has taken an interest in bitcoin.

The prolific rapper, artist, and producer spoke of bitcoin, although briefly in a May 2018 interview with Charlemagne. He mentioned the flagship crypto twice in the interview. He mentioned it for the first time in reference to Harriet Tubman’s face in the $20 bill.

In an epic reply, Yeezy said “that was the moment I wanted to use bitcoin.” He espoused his belief that society needs to focus forward instead of the past to encourage progress.

Kanye had shortly before the interview tweeted “decentralize,” which was perceived as a nod for cryptocurrencies. Since Kanye remains silent about crypto and bitcoin.

Ashton Kutcher

Best known for his roles in “that 70s show” and “dude wheres my car,” Ashton Kutcher is another big bitcoin proponent in the Hollywood hills elite.

In a talk at 2013, TechCrunch Disrupt Conference Kutcher expressed optimism in bitcoin, asserting that they were becoming more and more relevant.

Kutcher also had a say on the recent wallet exchange hacks. He compared it to when banks started, and they didn’t have safe safes. People would walk in and rob the safes.

Kutcher also donated $4 million worth of XRP to Ellen DeGeneres wildlife charity fund in 2015.

Mitchelle Phan

Most of the celebrities became interested in bitcoin during its first big hype from 2013 to 2014. Michelle phan, however, is a new initiate. She recently came out as a bitcoin supporter.

In an off the pill podcast, the YouTube influencer and makeup entrepreneur asserted that bitcoin, crypto, and decentralization is the next wave and a vital evolution. Mitchelle also tweets a few tidbits about bitcoin on twitter every once in a while.

Mike Tyson

The once baddest man on the planet and a former heavyweight boxing champion is also a bitcoin proponent.

Iron mike launched his line of bitcoin ATMs in Las Vegas in 2015. His ATM line is branded mike Tyson bitcoin, with each unit has his facial tattoo.

Tyson also said in a 2015 interview with Coindesk that although he doesn’t understand a currency based on the numerical equations, he is grateful to be part of the revolution. He hopes his participation will increase awareness of cryptocurrencies.

50 cent

In addition to his already lucrative career, renowned rapper 50 cent made millions in bitcoin from an album he had sold for cryptocurrency and then forgetting about it.

His 2014 album animal ambition garnered 700 bitcoin and three years later after the 2017 Bull Run was worth $7 million.
