In Mount Kenya lies a savvy restaurant that has begun accepting Bitcoin as a mode of paying for meals.
Crypto For Meals In Mount Kenya
The restaurant is called Betty’s place and is located over roughly 90 miles from Nairobi, which is the capital city of Kenya, in the rural part of Nyeri. Betty’s Place is among the few start-ups in the country to embrace the Blockchain technology and Cryptocurrencies, by giving its customers the option of paying for meals in either Bitcoin or Dash.
The proprietor of the Business Beatrice Wanjiru is proud of this achievement and the fact that she is among the first to make this option available to her customers. She has commented that with the world increasingly becoming more global she is proud to make her restaurant global as well.
The fruits of her ingenuity come with the many visitors from different parts of the globe that Betty’s place attracts. Wanjiru said that with the restaurant receiving visitors from diverse background she thought it necessary to make it possible for them to make payments in whichever coin they come in with, as long as the coins are viable.
Bitcoin Classes Held At Betty’s Place
Wanjiru went into trading Bitcoin a few years back and purchased the two storey building on which Betty’s Place now stands. She explains that the proceeds that were used in starting Betty’s Place were from trading in Crypto, once the profits were enough to allow her to do so.
Betty’s Place is strategically found along the road where it is amply visible from the main Nyeri road. It is well known for its grilled meat dishes especially ‘nyama choma’, which is the local name for barbecued meat. Along with sumptuous meals and live music playing from the Kenyan Orchestra, Betty’s Place also gives Crypto classes.
Apart from being a place where customers go to enjoy a delicious uniquely Kenyan cuisine, customers are also given the opportunity to learn about Cryptocurrency and its underlying technology. Wanjiru proudly refers to herself as a Crypto pioneer and says she has chosen to put her knowledge into good use by teaching others what she knows.
She has introduced classes on Bitcoin for those who are interested in learning about it, with the tutorial sessions running every Sunday at Betty’s Place. She has said that the one day set aside is for her to be able to teach her customers about Cryptocurrency and how it works.
The Rise Of Crypto Adoption In Kenya
The Crypto community continues to grow and Crypto adoption in the country continues to rise despite the fact that the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) continues to warn citizens against the new sector saying that there is a danger in investing in digital assets.
Although the apex bank has been adamant in warning Kenyans against the Crypto sector, other branches of the government like the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development have announced that it is looking to incorporate Blockchain technology into its systems. Blockchain technology will be used in creating a properly managed system that will allocate government houses efficiently.
